These glass “bird nooks” come with a true artist story. Well over ten years ago Chris was producing a series of glass gourds for a seasonal show. One of them had a thin wall and a hole formed during the second blow. Instead of going to the discard bucket it went into the annealer “just to see what it looked like when cooled”. On examination it was colorful and held the promise of “being something”…but what? His partner said it could serve as a bird feeder…and that is what it became…originally it was called “The Pakenham Bird Feeder” but too many people mistook the name of the small town where the artist lives to a particular bird. And so the process was refined; what was accidental became deliberate. Thousands have since been produced yet no two are identical.
