DUCKLINGTON, “Duck” – A completed dragonfly ready to perch on your own crafting project.
DUCKLINGTON is a fully crafted dragonfly for the creator or crafter who would like to incorporate a dragonfly into their own creation. Unique, festive glitter and sparkle. Each dragonfly is unique in the colour and patterns on its wings. All are craft worthy. Available in a very wide range of colours to match any project. Please contact us if you have a specific colour in mind.
An extra length of copper or silver wire, depending on the body colour, is included with DUCK for adding him to your piece. He can also be hot-glued if that is more appropriate for your project.
DUCKLINGTON can be attached to ribbon as a bow on a gift for the dragonfly lover, onto a twig in a planter display, on a wreath, spring, summer, fall, and for the Holiday season too. The possibilities are endless!
DIRK, a copper dragonfly, was the first item created at Hazy Dayz Dragonflies. He was designed for a wreath to enhance my entry door with no thought to having a business. DUCK is made in his likeness though with recycled aluminum craft beer can wings.
To attach length of supplied wire: **(Not required if hot gluing to project. Please refer to last paragraph.)
1. Tuck approximately 1/4-inch of wire end into the underside of his neck bands -or body if neck bands are too tight to pike the wire under. Sometimes I am not aware of my own strength while I am making them.
2. While holding wire end in place, with a thumb, wrap remaining length twice snugly around her neck. Do not worry, as handsome as they are, you will not harm them. They are not real.
3. Lead wire under body and wrap once or twice around body closest to winged section. You may want to check to see which side of body to begin wrap from so the wire blends with the diagonal pattern already in place on your dragonfly. Wire should now be secure, leaving half its length available for wrapping around your project piece.
4. Draw tight down and under the body where the wings meet. Wind around the lower body once or twice then the remaining length can be attached to your project. It may be easier to wire to your project before wrapping your dragonfly or butterfly with the extra wire, sort of like winding up a ball of yarn. Your dragonfly supported by its wire and situated slightly proud of your project may lend to a more realistic effect – as if in flight.
**If hot gluing, understand that copper is the best conductor of heat – the reason it is used for electrical wiring in your home. Your whole dragonfly/butterfly will heat up with one dollop of glue placed anywhere on it. Be ready. I was not the first time. Lesson learned with a mess on the countertop until it cooled.
