Moose Grazing, 1972, by Fritz Stehwien – Greeting or Art Card
An emblem of Canada and larger than life to behold, the moose was an obvious motif for Stehwien as a new immigrant. Though not an uncommon sight in certain part of Saskatchewan, moose are evasive in nature; Fritz painted these moose at the Saskatoon Foresty Farm, where they reside in a watery landscape identical to those they frequent in nature. Backgrounded by a seemingly surreal pink and orange sunset, a common and mesmeric sight on the Saskatchewan horizon — a province well-deserving of its nickname “Land of the Living Skies”.
The original is a pastel work, with the card itself printed locally on quality textured card stock. It measures 7.25″ x 5.25″, with the inside left blank for your own message to be written. The card and accompanying envelope are contained in a plastic slip for protection.
Note: The actual print is not as pink as seen in the supplementary photos, but rather more orange as per title image.
