The Polar Bear has become an iconic symbol of our need to protect the environment.

Among the Vikings polar bears were considered a gift for a king. The very first polar bear was brought to Europe by Ingimund the Old as a gift to the king of Norway about A.D. 900; Isleif, the first bishop of Iceland, also brought one as a present to the German emperor about A.D. 1050. Hvítabiôrn is the Old Norse word for “white bear” (polar bear), sometimes also called “ice bears”.

As a spirit animal the polar bear is a symbol of strength, endurance, and acceptance. He has adapted and evolved to survive in a harsh environment.

The Urnes style is a Viking art style of interlace that uses a combination of broad and narrow lines.

I have made my polar bear out of white bronze. It is 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/4 inches tall. I make it as either a pendant with a loop on the top or as a pin/ brooch.
