Prairie Grain Elevators, 1977, by Fritz Stehwien – Greeting or Art Card (blank inside)
Any visitor to the Canadian prairies will instantly recognize the iconic grain elevators dotting the farmland landscape. Once omnipresent, these buildings are becoming increasingly rare as they are demolished and replaced by modern grain silos. The new metal structures may be more efficient but lack the distinctiveness of the originals. As an immigrant to Saskatchewan, Stehwien was instantly drawn to the tall, brightly painted grain elevators. He and his wife Waltraude would frequently tour the province, admiring and painting the buildings as they stood, landmarks in the vast prairie landscape. Many original motifs or large prints are also available in the gallery: bstehwien@sasktel.net
The card itself is printed locally on high quality card stock. It measures 7.25″ x 5.25″, with the inside left blank for your own message to be written. The card and accompanying envelope are contained in a plastic slip for protection.
